Romans 10:9

Ephesians 2:8-9

Reviewing Your Decision

To put it simply, God made the world and created humanity. Man was in fellowship with God, for the glory of God, to experience God’s love. Loving God was and has always been the core of all things. However, that all changed when man used free will, which God had graciously provided, to disobey God. That moment of disobedience, sometimes referred to as “the fall”, is when sin entered the world. Sin broke our opportunity at a perfect relationship with God and brought evil, disease and death into our world. These sins separate us from a perfect and Holy God.

Our sin is the problem that corrupts the world and everything in it and we are powerless to overcome our sin apart from Jesus Christ. Our attempts to control the situation only increases the chaos around us and within us. That is why we need healing. That healing is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. That is the Good News – that Jesus loves us so much He offers us forgiveness of our sins and His spirit to help us change how we live.

Now that you have invited Jesus into your heart, you are a child of God. This means that you are a new creation. You are God’s son or daughter and He has given your life a purpose. It means that the promises of God are yours and you have been set free from the sin and death! However, this does not mean life will be perfect or all your problems will disappear.

That happens in heaven. Until then, nothing can separate you from God’s love. He sees you as perfect and holy even after you mess up. The first verse in Romans 10:9 is showing us the action of recognizing Jesus as our savior. This understanding and belief is the simplest form of acknowledging God and his purpose for your life. The second verse in Ephesians shows us that nothing we could ever do would make us right with God. We will always sin, we will always fail if we try to do life on our own. It is so important to realize Ephesians 2:8-9 because it puts it into perspective that you and I will never do anything good enough to earn our way to heaven: not cursing less, drinking less, giving more to charity, donating our resources, NOTHING. The only thing that will ever allow us to enter into an eternity with God is trusting his son Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
