Week of 1/10/2016 - The One Thing That Changes Everything

SERIES OVERVIEW

We all need change. Whether it’s in discipline, faith, finances or relationships, making changes can often seem impossible. But all change starts with a simple step. In this series, we will talk about what needs to happen in order for us to change and how we can experience the joy that comes with making changes in our lives.

SESSION 2: the One Thing That Changes Everything

SESSION OVERVIEW

True Change occurs when we realize the greatness and goodness of God. We are limited in our own ability and human faults, but as we journey closer to God and begin to apply the truths of Scripture, He does the work of transforming us to the potential He has for us. This journey begins with or willingness to pray and dive into the word of God on a daily basis. Pastor Don encourages all of us to begin this year with a renewed passion for God by joining him in fasting from January 17th through February 6th. More info at tffcrowley.com/21days.

KEY PASSAGES

Romans 11:33-36

Romans 12:1-2

Mark 9:28-29

John 17:17

Mark 9:28-29

GOAL FOR THIS SESSION

In this session, we seek to discover information of who God is and how application of His truths will lead us to true heart transformation: the change we desire.

KEY POINTS

1. God is great and God is good and he desires great and good for your life.

We must be reminded from God’s word that God is great and we, because of our human flaws, are not as great as we sometime think. Not only is God great but he is good. God’s great love means we are the target of his affection to share with us and give to us his greatness and goodness.

Romans 11:33-36 - Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and[a] knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! “Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?” “Who has ever given to God, that God should repay them?” For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.

2. Application of the information, the truth of Gods greatness and Goodness, allows our daily lives to become a life of worship and leads us to a more intimate relationship with Him.

Romans 12:1 - Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
John 17:17 - Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth. (NLT)
Mark 9:28-29 - And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.”(NKJV)

3. As we take information of God’s greatness and Goodness and apply his truth through a deeper relationship we are transformed into a better us way beyond our own capabilities as we discover God’s will for us.

Romans 12:2 - “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (NIV)

LEADERSHIP 101

A week into the New Year can be marked by failure. Already we have stumbled on our resolutions. Many have already given up believing change will never be a reality. In this session we want to help them first evaluate the changes. Was the failure because the goals were misguided? Was the failure simply a lack of ability? Or was it as simple as not having the right information to apply for real transformation to take place? Growing people change is one the core values of The Fountains. This change comes not by our will power but understanding God’s greatness and his love for us. By living in and applying his truths, his goodness and greatness can transform us.
