Week of 5/1/2016

MISSIONS

In this session we will discuss what it means to fulfill the Great Commission. We will discuss the ways we, as the Fountains are doing so and challenge your group to be come actively involved through faith and the promises of God.

KEY PASSAGE

Matthew 28:19-20
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And behold , I am with you always, to the end of the age.

GOAL FOR THIS SESSION

In this stand alone sermon Cory explains to us the opportunity we have in being part of what God is doing in the lives of others locally, within our region and throughout the world. This is not simply a time of information but a call to action to be involved beyond our comfort zone.

KEY POINTS

1.    We have been given a Great Commission

Enabled by the Holy Spirit we are called to Be Christ’ witness in our city county state and world.

2.    We have a great impact locally through our outreach. Our Jerusalem.

We must keep in check our words, our approach, the voices we listen too, our expectations and our shame remembering that God does care for us.

3.    Apathy keeps us from reaching our world.

Connecting the local church to a missionary on the field and their project to reach the people are serving and yet to serve. We have a partnership with MANNA Worldwide.

LEADERSHIP 101

Missions is often seen as something we give for someone else to do. The truth is that we are called not only to help those near us but to take the gospel to the whole world. Fear, apathy, calling and even finances are the excuses we use no to do that which Christ commanded. Our hope this week is that your groups will grow in their faith to go beyond the boundaries they have set and walk into the boundless faith of God’s mission field.

DISCUSSION

Use the questions provided in each session to facilitate your group’s discussion and application of each topic.

GET GOING

·      When you hear the word missionary what image pops into your mind?

·      Have you ever looked into a mirror and seen a missionary? Why? Why Not?

GET DEEP

Read Matthew 28:19-20

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And behold , I am with you always, to the end of the age.

·      What is the call of these verse 19?

·      What is the promise of both verse 19 and 20?

Read Acts 1:8

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

·      According to Acts 1:8 once we have received the gift of salvation and the Holy Spirit what is the Next Step we take?

·      What is an attribute listed here of having received the Holy Spirit? (You will be what?)

·      Where are we the church and you the individual called to share the Gospel?

Key Point One: We have been given a Great Commission.

·      For clarity sake lets define what is our Jerusalem, our Samaria and the ends of the World.

·      How do we reach our Jerusalem? Does your Life Group actively participate in Impact Kids and the other outreach events the church is involved in?

·       Why is it sometimes easier to reach our Jerusalem? Why is reaching our Jerusalem only partial obedience to the Great Commission?

Key Point 2: We have a great impact locally through our outreach. Our Jerusalem.

·      Have you ever been out of the United States to do mission work?

·      If so what impact did it have on your life?

·      If not what has kept you from doing so?

·      Is it easier to have faith or make apathetic excuses to fulfill the Great Commission?

Read Matthew 28:19-20 & Act 1:8 Again

·      Fear, apathy, calling and even finances are the excuses we use no to do that which Christ commanded. How do these verses reassure us that God is bigger than insecurities about going into our world?

·      How does these verses challenge us to grow in faith to go beyond the boundaries we have set and walk into the boundless faith of God’s mission field?

Key Point 3: Apathy keeps us from reaching our world.

NEXT STEP

Help your Group identify and take their next steps with Jesus. Pray with them and for them. Ask them about their next steps later this week.

Is your Next Step to embrace the calling to every believer to be witness beyond our Jerusalem?

Is your next Step to plug into the local mission we have at the Fountains such as Impact Kidz?

Is your Next Step to trust God to provide any resources you need to accomplish the calling on your life to reach your world and go on an upcoming mission trip?

PRAY

Pray for Ricky and Tammy Salmon in Bangkok and Pastor Enga Mizo whom we support in Myanmar.  Ask God to help your group be broken for those and get involved with missions locally and throughout the world. Thanks God for allowing the opportunity too trust him in taking the Next Step.
