I Love the 90’s - Session 4
The Key to Progress
What’s your favorite technology from the 1990s?
What would you think of a company like Apple if their products today were the same as they were in the ‘90s?
Like Apple made progress and increased in value, we can make progress in our lives.
Read 2 Peter 3:18.
We are meant to grow and make progress.
What is one area of your life in which you want to make progress?
Progress is forward or onward movement toward a destination.
Are you more likely to try to maintain things in your life or make progress? Why?
If you say “yes” to following Jesus, you’re saying “yes” to progress.
The Key to Change
If you want to see progress, you’ve got to be willing to change.
1. Change in Direction
Read Proverbs 14:12.
From the moment our lives begin, the direction of our lives is toward spiritual and physical death.
What goal or destination is your life moving toward?
What was one big change of direction that happened in your life?
Our direction defines our destination.
Read Matthew 7:13-14.
Have you found new joy, energy, or hope because of a change in your life?
2. Change in Leadership
Read Matthew 16:13-19.
When Peter said Jesus was the Messiah, the leader sent by God, Peter’s life changed.
Who’s leading these parts of your life: Finances, family, relationships, health, work?
3. Change in Perspective
Jesus changes our perspective of sin, other souls, and ourselves.
Read Romans 8:12-13.
Sin is an enemy that wants to destroy us, but God changes our lives and frees us from sin.
How has Jesus changed your perspective of sin? Of other people? Of yourself?
Change is the key that starts the vehicle of progress.
Help your Group identify and take their next steps with Jesus. Pray with them and for them, and ask about their next steps later in the week.
Possible next steps:
Tell your Group what change you need to make and ask them to pray for you.
Talk to your Group Leader and ask for help about a specific sin that is keeping you from making progress in your relationship with Jesus.
Think about someone you know who needs to make progress or start a relationship with Jesus. This week, invite that person to The Fountains
Thank Jesus for changing your direction and leading your life. Ask God to help you see other people with His perspective.
