Discuss

  1. Why do people often overestimate their ability to resist temptation?

  2. In what situations are you most likely to think, “I can handle this,” but later regret it?

SECTION 3: MOVE THE LINE

READ Matthew 26:41 (NIV)

“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Discuss

  1. Why do people usually ask, “How close can I get?” instead of “How far should I stay away?”

  2. What is one boundary you need to create in your life to stay away from temptation?

SECTION 4: MAGNIFY THE COST

READ Numbers 32:23 (NIV)

"But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the Lord; and you may be sure that your sin will find you out."

  2. How would remembering the real cost help you make better decisions in the moment?

SECTION 5: PLAN YOUR ESCAPE

READ 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”

  1. Why is it important to have a plan before temptation shows up?

  2. What does “running” from temptation look like in real life for you?
