Michael Mendias
May 20, 1965 — July 3, 2025
Michael Christopher Mendias passed away peacefully at home in Ft. Worth Thursday morning, July 3, after a long battle with cancer. He was 60.
Born in Santa Monica, California on May 20, 1965, Mike was the son of Albert and Sharon Bonner Mendias.
Mike proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1987-1991. He then began his 26-year career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons in 1991 as a correctional officer and retired in 2017 as a Plumbing Supervisor and is where he met his wife, Kelli. He was a member of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) with the BOP for several years, serving as a Team Leader for a period of time. He enjoyed coaching both of his kids in soccer, t-ball, and baseball and left a huge impact on his players and their families. He loved his dog Jax, playing XBOX, being at the lake, and spending time with his family and friends. Mike never met a stranger and greeted everyone with a hug and a smile, even up until his last days.
Although Mike had always been a believer in Christ, in 2024 he laid down his life and was baptized. This step in his faith brought him great peace, strength, and hope as he navigated his final chapter, serving as a powerful testimony to those who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and twin children, Noah and Sharon.
In addition to his wife of 28 years Kelli Mendias, Mike is survived by his son, Zachary Mendias and his wife, Emily; daughter, Peyton Mendias and significant other, Joey; brother, Albert Mendias and his wife, Lisa; sister Lydia Stephens and her, husband Jake; half-sister, Rebecca Funk and her husband, Gail; stepsister, Jennifer Workman and her husband; Ronnie; stepmother, Penny Mendias; mother-in-law, Suzi Gardner; and many extended family and friends.
